Ready? Zipfl Go!

The Zipflbob is a unique sled for girls and boys age 5 to 100, designed to ride on snow, grass, sand and water.

It has a distinctive handle - the "Zipfl" - which is used for stability and turning. Made of sturdy plastic, the Zipflbob is one of the funniest and at the same time safest sports toys you can have to go downhill.

Although invented in the 1970ies, it was not before the 1990ies that the Zipflbob was rediscovered as a cool high-speed sled in Kitzbuehel, Austria. This was the birth of Zipflbob as a race sport.

The Zipflbob fan community has been growing constantly ever since and the first official Zipflbob Masters were held in 1999. The Zipflbob World Series was launched in 2003 and today competitions are held in 5 countries on 2 continents. Race categories include: Zipflbob Cross, Downhill, Speed, and Team Race.

And the Zipflbob is fast! One can easily reach a speed up to 100km/h or more (world record: 157km/h). Thanks to its low center of gravity and the molded rails on the underside of its polyethylene frame, the Zipflbob is easy to maneuver, making it a fun sled for everyone. Steering is done by leaning and shifting the body weight in the desired direction, and to break you simply pull the Ziplfbob back by its handle and dig your heels in the snow. The Zipflbob is compact in size and only weighs 2kg, so carrying it up the mountain for some exhilarating freeriding fun is easy.

Once you bob - you'll never stop! Let's ride the Zipflbob.

Zipflbobbing conquers the USA

In February 2010 the young funsport is climbing the next important step in Zipflbob history. The first IZF supported ,ZIPFLBOB WORLD RACES" in the USA will be organized in the ski resorts of DES MOINES ( 5.2.2010 - 7.2.2010 ) and SUNBURST ( 12.2.2010 - 14.2.2010 ). These races are organized by the event agency Yiippi.

The races are open for everyone who want to give it a try. But always keep the IZF slogan in mind: ,Ride hard, but safe!" A small group of "professional" Austrian rides will fly to the States to be part of the races and to collect world series points. The star of this group is the first ZIPFLBOB WORLD CHAMPION, Paul Steinbach from one of Austrias most famous ski ressorts Kitzbuehel. Paul Steinbach won the first ZIPFLBOB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, which took place in Flachau ( Salzburg ) at 17.1.2010. About 100 competitors from 8 countries met at these championships to find the fastest among the fastest.

Zipflbobbing: Part of the Olympic Games?

One of the goals of the ,INTERNATIONAL ZIPFLBOB FEDERATION" ( IZF ) is to become part of the
olympic games. To be accepted as an official sport in the olympic program an international structure is necessary. The IZF is working very hard to establish this structure of international and national federations, and clubs.

IZF President Thomas Nemeth:" Zipflbobbing is booming worldwide at the moment. Zipflbobfans all over the world should contact us to be part of the worldwide Zipflbob funsport movement. We are very proud that we can show this new family fun sport with an incredible potential to the US people in the innovative ski resorts Des Moines and Sunburst! - To be part of the olympic program is a long term goal, but we are very optimistic to reach that soon!
